DESCRIPTION

Adapted from traditional millinery methods, Master Milliner Elaine Mergard teaches creative miniature hats for dolls, teddy bears and beloved pets. Learn how to make a variety of hats using supplied patterns and hat blocks you can make yourself. With nine different styles, each hat will add to the costuming giving your dolls and bears a fresh personality.

TUTOR
With over 50 years of hat making experience and decades of teaching millinery, Elaine Mergard’s mission is to help create the next generation of milliners by teaching techniques enabling each student to develop their unique creativity.

At the 2017 Hats Off to Adelaide Millinery Conference, Elaine was honoured by her peers and was inducted into the Millinery Association of Australia ‘Hall of Fame’ for her contribution to millinery in Australia and beyond.

CLASSIC PICTURE HATS
Learn to create Miniature hats using fabric to match your costume. Whether a droop brim Picture hat or an upturned brim style complete your headwear with a quality finish.

VINTAGE POKE BONNETS

To give your doll or bear a Vintage look, create a 19th Century Poke Bonnet with either a silk brim or a braid straw brim. Learn to colour tint your fabric, straw and trims to match.

CUSTOM CLOCHE AND SUN HATS

Give your Doll or Bear that classic style with a silk Cloche Hat. Using braid straws and sinamay, create straw brims to go with flat or dome crown. Learn to make your own hat blocks and brim shapes for adorable Summer hats or Boaters.

FELT HATS AND TRADITIONAL BERET
